Mersal is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film. The lead actor is Vijay. He plays three roles — a father and his twin sons.
The story is about two brothers who are separated at birth. One brother is Vetri. He is a magician and fights against medical corruption. The other brother is Maaran. He is an honest doctor who treats patients for only 5 rupees.
Story Summary:
One morning, some medical staff are kidnapped. During the investigation, police find the name of Dr. Maaran and arrest him.
In a flashback, we learn that Maaran is a good doctor. He treats people for only 5 rupees and is very popular in Chennai. He wins an award in Paris and falls in love with a doctor named Pallavi. Later, at a magic show, someone dressed as a magician kills Dr. Arjun Zachariah.
Maaran says he kidnapped the medical staff because they caused the death of a young girl and her mother’s suicide.
Later, it is revealed that the real kidnapper is Vetri, not Maaran. Vetri is a magician. Their father, Vetri Maaran, was a kind and honest man. He built a hospital in a village. But this hospital caused big problems for the family.
When Vetri’s mother Aishwarya gave birth to him, corrupt doctors did a C-section without reason. She died from too much anesthesia. The baby (Vetri) was declared dead but he survived. He was raised by his uncle and a magician. He grew up to take revenge.
In the present, Vetri and Maaran work together. They destroy the corrupt doctor Daniel and his team. In the end, Vetri gives a press conference to explain his actions and goes to jail. But when he hears about a girl who died because of medical neglect, he escapes from prison to continue his fight. Meanwhile, Maaran becomes the head of the Indian Medical Council.
