Story Summary:
Nagendra was riding in a palanquin with his mother. He saw some British men playing football. He had never seen the game before. He became curious and got down from the palanquin to watch. The ball rolled near his feet. One British man said, “This boy, come on, kick it.” Nagendra kicked the ball with all his strength. This was the beginning of his football journey.
Nagendra grew up and became a very good football player. He wanted to start his own football club and play internationally. But the British clubs tried to stop him. He needed a field to practice, but no one gave him space. People were afraid of the British.
The British had ruled and controlled the Bengali people for a long time. They were afraid that if the Bengalis won in football, they would become stronger and challenge British power. So the British clubs tried hard to stop Nagendra.
The movie shows the inspiring life of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari. He was the first Indian footballer. He started a football club in India. Golondaaj is based on his real life story.
