Chennai Express is a 2013 Indian Hindi action-comedy film starring Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead roles.
The story centers around Rahul Mithaiwala, a businessman who accidentally boards the Chennai Express train and embarks on a thrilling journey from Mumbai to Rameswaram with the daughter of a powerful gangster.
Plot Summary
Rahul Mithaiwala is a 40-year-old wealthy bachelor who lives in Mumbai with his grandparents. His grandfather, Y.Y. Mithaiwala, is a successful businessman and owner of several sweet shops. Preparations are underway for his grandfather’s 100th birthday celebration when Rahul’s friends Bobby and Baman invite him on a trip to Goa, which he happily accepts. However, on that very day, Rahul’s grandfather sees Sachin Tendulkar get out on 99 runs on TV and suffers a heart attack, leading to his death.
Before dying, his grandfather’s last wish was for a portion of his ashes to be immersed in the Ganges and the rest in Rameswaram. Rahul’s grandmother requests him to fulfill this wish. Though reluctant, Rahul agrees to the task, but his true intention is to sneak off to Goa with his friends. His plan is to board the Goa-bound train and meet them there. However, his grandmother puts him on the Chennai Express instead.
Just as the train is about to leave, Rahul forgets the urn with the ashes and rushes back to get it. When he returns and tries to catch the moving train, he sees a young woman and four men also trying to board. He helps the young woman onto the train, and from there, the real story begins.
